Pharmacognosy Laboratory

The Pharmacognosy Laboratory provides extensive practical exposure in the identification and evaluation of crude drugs. Students are trained in macroscopic and microscopic examination of plant materials, powder microscopy, and detection of adulterants.

Practical training includes:

  • Extraction and isolation of active constituents

  • Preliminary phytochemical screening

  • Preparation and preservation of herbarium specimens

  • Evaluation of crude drugs for quality and purity

The laboratory is equipped with compound microscopes, reagents, Soxhlet apparatus, glassware, and essential analytical tools. Through systematic laboratory exercises, students develop competencies in standardization, authentication, and quality assurance of herbal drugs, bridging theory with real-world pharmaceutical applications.
